Gifts of Sight

Our small change is their big change, our trash is their treasure.

Most of the world’s 37 million blind people would be able to see again if they had access to eye care services. But what can we do in the U.S.? Through our partnership with Hope for India, we are able to provide brand new eyeglasses for only $4 U.S. per pair and perform cataract surgeries for only $13 U.S. per eye.

Imagine being able to see a face for the first time in over fifteen years.

“I was there when she saw her mother’s face for the first time ever,” said Dr. Aaron Lech, who described giving a little girl her first pair of glasses during the trip in 2004. “Her name was Naviya, and I’ll always remember her—her smile just lit up the room.”

Of his experience among the people of Chillakalu, “I was truly humbled,” added Dr. Lech.

Compassion in Action

With more doctors traveling with us to Chillakalu this October, we hope to raise $23,000 for the medical clinic, as we anticipate treating up to 6,000 patients. $23,000 will provide the following:

  • 1,500 brand new pairs of eyeglasses
  • 1,000 cataract surgeries
  • Operational expenses for the clinic, including the hiring of 40 technicians and nursing staff, generators, tents and additional support staff and supplies in India

Please note that all doctors, staff and team members who traveling with us to India pay for their own expenses. 100% of all donations will go toward the actual medical clinic in Chillakalu, and are 100% tax deductible.
